Lilly Software and SupplierMarket.com Team To Bolster E-Commerce with Online Purchasing
3 March 2000, Hampton, NH (USA), and BURLINGTON, Mass. - Lilly Software Associates, Inc. (LSA) has signed a non-binding letter of intent to form a strategic alliance with SupplierMarket.com. SupplierMarket.com is a leading Internet marketplace for the buying and selling of manufactured direct materials. The two companies intend to link the SupplierMarket.com marketplace to LSA customers using LSA’s flagship VISUAL Manufacturing® supply chain software.
“We believe this will benefit VISUAL users, as both buyers and suppliers,” said Bob Bettencourt, LSA’s manager of product development. “As buyers, our users will be able to post RFQs on the SupplierMarket.com marketplace and invite competitive bids. And our users who are suppliers can participate in these bidding events to win new business.” Mr. Bettencourt is particularly enthused by the buying power, and worldwide sales potential, that SupplierMarket.com lends LSA customers.
On the SupplierMarket.com marketplace, suppliers browse RFQs that buyers have posted. Likewise, buyers are matched to qualified suppliers by the SupplierMarket.com SmartMatchSM system. When a qualified list of suppliers has been finalized, a real-time, online bidding session is held wherein suppliers can offer competitive bids. At the end of the bidding, the buyer simply chooses the supplier that best meets its requirements.
“It presents the customer with cost savings through automated competitive bidding,” said Asif Satchu, co-founder and president at SupplierMarket.com. “On the sell side, it opens up a new sales channel. For the buyer, we deliver qualified suppliers to bid on contracts.” Initially, SupplierMarket.com will operate outside of VM, but the two companies intend to integrate the two solutions to automate the RFQ process. Both SupplierMarket.com and Lilly Software will be exhibiting at National Manufacturing Week, March 13 – 16, 2000 in Chicago.
